Di Chan is one of those restaurants that I go to when the person I’m having lunch with suggests it. I don’t go out of my way to eat at this place but I wouldn’t avoid it either. If it was just me and the Mister and we were in the area, we prefer to drive just a bit further and grab a meal at Sab-e-Lee.
But my usual lunchmate, L, love this place. She craves the Beef Salad and Spicy Noodles with BBQ Pork. I have to agree that on most days I really enjoy the Beef Salad.
I’ve tried several of the lunch specials but usually stick with either the Spicy Noodles or lately, the Spicy Basil Fried Rice with BBQ Pork.
The consistency at Di Chan is somewhat inconsistent, both food and service-wise. I think this is pretty evident by reading the reviews on Yelp. Kirk’s review from back in 2005 (mmm-yoso!!!) still pretty much sums up how I feel about the place. The dishes still look the same from back then.
Okay, I know my tone of the review is somewhat lukewarm. It’s just that I think Di Chan is one of those local restaurant aimed at the average eater looking for a “decent” Thai place to “grab a bite to eat.” It’s in the same class as I would put Spices Thai Cafe. You know, a place where I can usually get a decent (there’s that word again) meal but not usually something I crave for.
If you do decide to stop by for lunch, they close at 3 pm and reopen at 5 pm for the dinner crowd.
