La Bastide Bistro – Revisit

It’s always fun to have lunch at a new place when I meet my girlfriends for our once a month (or two) luncheons. We don’t always go somewhere new since sometimes we crave something familiar. But this time, I really wanted them to try La Bastide Bistro. Ever since the Mister and my first visit, it always comes up in conversation whenever friends ask me for a restaurant recommendation. Needless to say I love this place.

We got there pretty early, first ones to be seated. We placed our drink order and asked for some bread and butter (free upon request) from our very friendly waitress. Soon the drinks and the fresh, very hot bread and herb butter come to the table. I was starving so I didn’t hesitate to dig in. Hot bread! So good with the herb butter.

We looked over the menu.

After some deliberation, we placed our order. As we were catching up, our appetizers came. “C” ordered a small side salad with balsamic vinaigrette. The tomatoes and onions were underneath the greens.C enjoyed this.

“L” decided to get the Onion Soup Au Gratin. She thoroughly enjoyed this. Look at all that yummy cheese!

I decided to try the Soup of the Day – Potato Leek Soup. This was so good, I could have just put the bowl up to my lips and chugged the whole thing. But since I was having lunch with the ladies, I controlled myself. Oh boy this was good with the warm bread with herb butter.

L’s entree came out first, Mussels in a Meunière Chardonnay Sauce and side of French Fries. I forgot to get a picture of the huge serving of fries but you’ll see it with my entree. L said this was very good, broth good for soaking up with bread. There were a lot of mussels.

My dish was served next, Garlic Shrimp and Spinach Crepe special. I was in the mood for fries, which were nicely seasoned and decently fried. Of course look at that crepe! I didn’t count the number of whole shrimp that were inside the crepe but a decent amount. The only thing I wished they had done was removed the shells from the tail, which would have made it easier to eat. The cream sauce was very smooth and rich, great flavor that complemented the lightness and slightly sweetness of the crepe.

C’s entree, Salmon in Papillote with a Julienne of Carrots, Fennel, Leek, Tomato and Zucchini White Rice, Served with a Ginger Beurre Blanc. Whew, what a mouthful! C said this was delicious! It smelled really good from where I was sitting.

Although we were all pretty full after our meal, we decided, well “C” and I decided to look at the dessert menu. I mentioned that the profiteroles with vanilla ice cream was really good so “C” ordered one, which we all shared. I didn’t take a picture of it but you can see what it looks like from a  previous visit (scroll down all the way to the end). We each had our own profiteroles, just the perfect size and a great way to end our “Ladies Luncheon”!
