Even though Christmas time is usually crazy for many, a few of us (Dennis, Cathy and Canine Cologne) found the time to get together during the week for a South Bay food crawl. CC was the the host of this crawl and she had TJ Oyster Bar as our first stop. You can read CC’s post on this stop here. Here’s a shot of the window holiday decorations from the inside.
We checked over the menu but decided that we would start slow since this was the first stop.
Octopus coctell. This was so good. The octopus was so tender and I can drink that cocktail sauce (more like a salsa) by itself.
We also ordered 2 fish tacos to share. A shot of the tacos and the complimentary sides to your meal.
Dennis also ordered an extra oyster taco but they were out of uh…oysters that morning. Hmmm, TJ what bar? Anyway, the shrimp taco that he got as a substitute was really good.

There was a TJ Oyster Bar in PB for a little while, but they closed before I managed to get there. That octopus looks good – I like it when the sauce is salsa-y like that, and not ketchup-y.
Hi Mike! It’s too bad that one in PB closed because I certainly would have frequented it more. The coctel was really good and the salsa-y sauce was a perfect compliment. We actually went back a week later just so I could have it again.
how ironic about dennis’s taco! wtf! haha.
that coctel sauce was good!
Hey CC! I know. And why did they take his order if they were out? Oh well. I still like the place though.
Yeah, I thought I’d be gnawing on some chewy octopus but they were really tender! I wonder if the acidity of the coctel tenderizes them? I haven’t had enough of them to know…
Hi Dennis! I don’t know how they cook/marinade/hold the octopus but it works. The Mister and I went back a week later and it was just as good as the one we shared.
We went back also. Still no oysters…but the octopus was excellent, as were the tacos we got. I need to do my posts.
Hey Cathy! I’m craving that octopus cocktail!
